Situation

The Madison Common Council introduced a resolution to approve the condemnation of six properties in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The city proposed to demolish five rental houses and an apartment building to make room for a small park. The owner of the apartment building turned to our team to stop the proposed condemnation, which would have displaced about 200 residents.

Result

Our team developed a comprehensive legal and government affairs strategy to oppose the proposed condemnation. As a result, the city’s parks superintendent reversed course and the Board of Park Commissioners voted against the proposed condemnation. The Common Council voted to table the resolution, effectively ending the proposed condemnation action.
