Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that David M. Stauss will join the firm as a partner in its Denver office. Stauss will serve as the co-leader of the firm’s Data Privacy, Cybersecurity & Breach Response team, in addition to representing manufacturing and technology clients in commercial litigation and product liability cases.
Stauss routinely advises clients in preparing for and responding to data breaches and data security incidents. He works proactively with clients to draft incident response plans and address the legal strategic components of ‘war-game’ scenarios that test an organization’s ability to respond to cyberattacks. He has also counseled numerous clients in responding to data breaches, including managing multi-state breach notifications, providing employee training, appearing before regulators, handling disputes arising from cybersecurity issues, and recovering funds lost in illegal wire fraud phishing schemes.

Stauss is accredited by the International Association of Privacy Professionals as a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) and as a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT), and in 2018 he assisted in drafting Colorado’s cybersecurity legislation, serving as the outside subject-matter expert for the Colorado Attorney General’s office. In 2018, ColoradoBIZ magazine named Stauss among its Top 25 Most Influential Young Professionals.
Stauss is a frequent author and speaker on privacy and cybersecurity and has been quoted in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Cybersecurity Law Report, Law360, Law Week Colorado, Denver Business Journal, and Law Technology News. He has also co-authored Colorado Privacy & Cybersecurity Handbook, the definitive summary of Colorado’s privacy and cybersecurity statutes, regulations, and case law.
