National law firm Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that Brian Kinnear has joined the firm as partner in its Intellectual Property practice group in the firm’s Denver office.
Kinnear focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling where he manages the patent portfolios for Fortune 100 companies, start-ups, and businesses in between. In addition, he is frequently brought in to assist in all facets of litigation. Kinnear joins from Perkins Coie where he was partner.
“Brian greatly expands our national patent practice as he focuses on emerging areas of technology,” said Dan Cohn, partner and co-leader of Husch Blackwell’s intellectual property practice. “Brian’s IP business acumen complements our strong IP litigation practice and will benefit our clients considerably.”
Kinnear, who draws on his background as an electrical engineer, has prepared and prosecuted patent applications on artificial intelligence, satellite imaging, medical devices, and complex fractal encoding and decoding, and myriad business methods for clients across various industries. Before becoming an attorney, Kinnear was an engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense where he helped upgrade the nuclear power plant for fast attack submarines in service with the U.S. Navy.

Kinnear’s arrival continues the firm’s expansion of its intellectual property team, following the addition of 11 Minneapolis-based attorneys from Patterson Thuente in January.
