National law firm Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that L. Scott Oliver has joined the firm as a partner in its Intellectual Property practice group and as a member of the firm’s virtual Link office. He joins the firm’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation business unit.

Over the course of three decades in private practice, Oliver has handled all aspects of intellectual property litigation from inception to trial for an array of businesses, including wireless technology, software, semiconductors, and digital distribution. He has developed a particular focus on patent and trade secret litigation in U.S. district courts and before the International Trade Commission and has developed a deep understanding of litigation in connection with communications protocols, including 3G, fiber, satellite links, LTE, 802.11, and Bluetooth, among others. Because this technology inevitably involves industry standards, Oliver also has substantial experience with standards-setting organizations, patent stacking and hold-up issues, and reasonable and non-discriminatory rate setting.

“Scott’s deep industry knowledge and excellent legal skills are a great fit for our group,” said Jeffrey Sigmund, the head of Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation business unit. “We have a very active ITC practice that can gain from Scott’s experience, and he provides added depth to our IP team’s California presence. We’re excited to have him on board.”

“Husch Blackwell’s industry alignment is something I believe my clients are going to be excited about,” said Oliver. “Across the life cycle of intellectual property development and commercialization, Husch Blackwell has leading practitioners who excel at looking at the big picture and helping clients think through tough challenges at a strategic level. I look forward to helping the team grow in California and beyond.”
