Husch Blackwell’s Washington, DC office has contributed $3,000 to Food for Others as part of the firm’s Communities for Change program.
Food for Others obtains much of its food through food rescue operations and food drives. Staff and volunteers pick up good food that would have been discarded by local grocery stores and other retail food establishments. The food is brought to the warehouse for temporary storage, including refrigeration as appropriate. Food drives provide the majority of the organization’s non-perishable food. The food is distributed through the organization’s warehouse and 16 distribution sites throughout Northern Virginia.
“The Washington, DC office selected Food for Others as we thought it important to contribute to food security not only in the places that we work, but the places in which many of us live. Food for Others serves the community in Fairfax County, Virginia, where numerous Husch Blackwell attorneys and employees live,” said Kyle Gilster, managing partner of Husch Blackwell’s Washington, DC office.
The firm launched its HB Communities for Change initiative in July 2020. Its goal is to harness the energy of its offices to make positive change in the United States with respect to racial justice.
