Overview
Jacobs Engineering had a compelling case on paper for relocating its corporate headquarters from California to Texas; however, such moves are complex, particularly when your company is one of the largest engineering firms in the world with over 50,000 employees. Jacobs turned to Husch Blackwell for assistance in making the move.
Challenges
The state of Texas and its various localities provide excellent incentives for companies to consider taking up residence in the Lone Star State, but negotiating economic development agreements and securing grants can be a difficult process.
Solution
Husch Blackwell served as legal counsel to Jacobs on the transaction, which involved the cooperation of the State of Texas and the City of Dallas Office of Economic Development. We assisted with the negotiation of both local and state economic development agreements, as well as working on the old and new lease agreements.
Result
The big move was accomplished with much fanfare in the fall of 2016, expanding the client’s presence at Dallas’ Harwood Center from 75,000 to 100,000 square feet.
The Dallas Business Journal selected the relocation as a finalist in its 25th annual Best Real Estate Deals awards series.
