Professor Kimberly Norwood, Henry H. Oberschelp Professor of Law at Washington University School of Law, will conduct a workshop designed to raise consciousness about what implicit biases are and how harmful implicit biases in society can negatively impact individual decision making and behavior. The workshop will also take a quick look at how societal biases affect and infect the legal profession.
Professor Norwood’s research focuses on colorism, implicit bias, and the intersection of race, class and public education in America. She lectures around the world on colorism, various social justice/civil rights issues, implicit (and explicit) bias issues and was part of the national team of experts consulted to advise Starbucks on its national implicit bias training agenda.
Moderating the program will be Skye Parr, a Labor & Employment associate in The Link office that counsels clients on day-to-day operations, proactive compliance and dispute resolution. A former teacher and nonstop volunteer, she is by nature an advocate and a skilled negotiator.
Professor Norwood requests that participants take the Implicit Association Tests (IATs) “Race” and “Gender – Career” before November 20.
