The first U.S. Supreme Court decision related to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules in over 30 years in Alston v. NCAA was issued on June 21, 2021. Additionally, several state laws enabling college athletes to profit off of their name, image and likeness took effect on July 1st, in conjunction with the NCAA adopting an interim policy deregulating rules in this area. These changes require colleges and universities to rethink their relationships with college athletes and the NCAA.
