In the third installment of our COVID-19 discussion for pharmacies and pharmacists, we talk about the guidance recently issued by HHS related to the pharmacists’ ability to “order and administer” COVID-19 testing. We also discuss the HIPAA waiver for community-based testing sites. We cover CLIA waivers required for testing, the Boards of Pharmacy guidance related to pharmacist and pharmacy technician scope of practice, and other legal considerations. Finally, we end with general business considerations to contemplate before endeavoring to become a community-based testing site for COVID-19.
