Partners Chris Friedman and Mike Silver partnered with the Tennessee Bankers Association to present a webinar on Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, the United States Supreme Court decision overturning the doctrine of Chevron deference, which required federal courts to defer to agencies’ interpretations of federal law when the relevant statutes are ambiguous and when the agencies’ interpretation is reasonable or permissible.
Chris and Mike discussed the details of the case, its immediate effects, and the uncertain impacts of the new decision. They specifically explored Loper Bright's significant implications for the banking industry and for the CFPB, suggesting that impacts will be present but less pronounced than for other agencies. They also discussed potential responses from regulators.
