Danny uses his creativity to assist clients with appellate proceedings and complex litigation.

Danny focuses his practice on appellate advocacy and briefing major motions at the federal trial-court level. He has briefed appeals in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Ninth, and D.C. Circuits, and several state appellate courts. He has orally argued appeals in the Fourth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and the Missouri Court of Appeals.​ At the trial-court level, he has experience in a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters, with an emphasis on healthcare litigation and class action defense.

Before joining the firm, Danny served as a judicial intern to the Hon. Raymond W. Gruender, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and to the Hon. Stephanie A. Gallagher, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. He also served as an intern with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, DC. ​

Appellate Experience

  • Successfully represented the State of Montana Department of Revenue before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, obtaining reversal of bankruptcy court ruling denying the State sovereign immunity in adversary proceeding.
  • Successfully represented life insurance company before the district court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, obtaining and securing summary judgment on plaintiff's individual claim in a class action.
  • Successfully represented public university before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit to obtain reversal of summary judgment ruling that the university's campus distribution policy violated the First Amendment.
  • Successfully represented construction company in briefing and oral argument before the Missouri Court of Appeals, securing affirmance of summary judgment on $3 million suit on account claim.
  • Successfully represented court-appointed Receiver in briefing and oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, securing affirmance of trial court order approving distribution plan in equitable receivership for a ponzi scheme.
  • Successfully represented prisoners before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth and Ninth Circuits, defending claims for deprivation of constitutional rights.
  • Authored petition for a writ of certiorari and amicus curiae briefs at the petition stage in the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Presented four oral arguments in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Ninth Circuits and the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Trial Experience

  • Successfully represented pharmacy benefits management company in putative class action alleging overcharges for copying medical records.
  • Successfully defended Arizona hospital chain against antitrust conspiracy allegations, obtaining a dismissal of the antitrust claim with prejudice.
  • Successfully represented large automobile insurer in putative class action alleging failure to pay dealer and license fees, obtaining denial of class certification.
  • Successfully represented global pet care and nutrition company in false advertising class action, obtaining dismissal of claims with prejudice.

Husch Blackwell Authors Amicus Brief in Ninth Circuit's Psilocybin Rescheduling Dispute

Husch Blackwell prepared and filed an amicus curiae brief on behalf of nearly 30 end-of-life and palliative care clinicians, urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to compel the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to initiate proceedings that could lead to a rescheduling of psilocybin for use in the end-of-life clinical setting.

Outside the Office

Danny enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, traveling, and supporting the Baltimore Ravens.​
