Megan Fugier

Senior Associate
Overview

With a focus on religious institutions and their ancillary organizations, Megan represents clients in a variety of civil matters.

After Megan began her legal career in complex commercial litigation, working on matters as diverse as bad faith insurance litigation and condemnation and eminent domain issues, she joined a team tasked with designing a reparations program for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as an alternative to sexual abuse litigation. A lifelong Catholic herself, Megan was immediately drawn to the opportunity to find a less adversarial path forward for both the client and those in need of care and support from the Church. This evolved into a career advising a variety of religious institution clients on a much broader slate of issues. She now represents the Catholic Church, related organizations such as religious schools and healthcare providers, religious entities of other faith traditions, and nonprofit organizations in labor and employment matters, constitutional rights issues, insurance matters, and personal injury and general contract claims.

While Megan is fully prepared to advocate for clients in court when necessary, many religious institutions instinctively seek to resolve matters outside of court, and Megan supports them in achieving this aim. One of her chief goals is to help clients avoid litigation when possible. She regularly represents clients throughout mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, and she proactively educates clients on common pitfalls that can lead them into litigation. A highly strategic attorney who loves looking at the big picture, she also takes an active role in helping clients consider overall litigation strategy and best practices. As a deeply logical thinker and a gifted writer, she excels at spotting logical fallacies and crafting arguments to put clients in the best position possible.

Known for her collaborative nature, Megan seeks to understand client goals, motivations, risk appetites, cultures, and priorities. She prides herself on her ability to build connections with clients, and her goal is always to make their lives easier so that they can focus on their spiritual mission.

Outside the Office

Megan is an amateur florist who enjoys live music, reading, and anything she can do outside in the sun. But with three children age three and under, Megan spends much of her free time wrangling toddlers and simply enjoying her family. A dog lover, she also has an American bulldog who needs almost as much attention as the kids.
