Mike is an experienced commercial litigator and business advisor, helping clients navigate and avoid litigation.

Mike brings extensive experience managing all phases of complex litigation in federal and state courts, as well as alternative dispute resolution proceedings. His practice encompasses commercial and business litigation, consumer class actions, mass torts, product liability, and construction disputes. He has represented both public and private entities across diverse industries, including financial services, technology, manufacturing, hospitality, and real estate development. Beyond litigation, Mike regularly advises clients with contract drafting and review during negotiation and due diligence stages of transactions, along with ensuring regulatory compliance.

Commercial & Business Litigation | Mike’s commercial and business litigation practice covers a wide range of disputes, including breach of contract, breach of warranty, unjust enrichment, indemnity, service or performance-level claims, fraud and misrepresentation, professional liability, M&A disputes, and shareholder conflicts. He also advises clients on brand protection strategies to safeguard their intellectual property assets, such as trade secrets.

Product Liability & Safety | Mike defends domestic and international manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in high-stakes product liability cases, representing clients in the automotive, industrial, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and chemical sectors. His experience includes matters involving strict liability, design defects, manufacturing defects, failure-to-warn, and toxic tort claims, often in some of the nation’s most challenging jurisdictions. 

Construction & Real Estate Development | In the construction and real estate development arenas, Mike handles litigation tied to commercial, industrial, and municipal projects. His work includes claims related to bonds, breach of contract, defaults, defective workmanship, delays, engineering and design defects, mechanics’ liens, and supply/procurement issues.

Financial Services & Consumer Litigation | Mike represents clients facing claims under various state and federal statutes, such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (ICFA). He also defends registered broker-dealers in Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitration proceedings, addressing allegations of negligent supervision and “selling away.”

Outside the Office

Michael enjoys traveling all over the world and is a dual Irish-American citizen. Most recently, he and his girlfriend, Erin, visited Banff, AB, Canada, as well as the Cayman Islands. Michael also enjoys skiing in places such as Park City, Utah, although his favorite sport is golf. Michael also samples Chicago’s restaurants, particularly barbecue joints.

Community Leadership

In collaboration with the firm, Michael has worked on pro bono cases, including those involving Section 1983 civil rights for incarcerated individuals.
