Overview

A former educator with a background in chemistry, Michael is a passionate advocate for protecting the ideas and inventions of clients.

A devoted and admitted science nerd at heart, Michael began his career with two degrees in chemistry, then taught at the high school and college level for several years. He also helped get two small businesses up and running, providing everything from investment to bookkeeping. As such, he’s adept at identifying key technological trends and ideas, then communicating them as clearly as he did in the classroom. He enjoys researching, writing and strategizing on where the law and science intersect. Michael helps clients bring technology to the wider world, and knows that well-researched and applied patent law is the key to protecting ideas. His work includes patent prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on behalf of clients.

Michael is appreciated for his genuine enthusiasm and care for client intellectual property matters. The same skills that made him an effective chemistry professor and champion of small business translate to client IP cases. Clients and legal teams know that Michael is quick to identify legal struggles and works tirelessly toward finding the right solution for each individual client.

Outside the Office

Having grown up in the St. Louis metro area, Michael is a Cardinals fan. He is the oldest of six close siblings, and the proud uncle of seven nieces and nephews… and counting. Michael also enjoys baking in his free time.

Community Leadership

In law school, Michael volunteered his time and talents to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Name Change Clinic and the ACLU Lobby Day, communicating with St. Louis’ elected officials regarding legislative initiatives regarding education, the rights of women and prisoners, and health issues.
