Overview

Ryan is a trial and appellate attorney who represents companies and individuals in civil litigation. He defends clients at trial and on appeal, bringing a perspective that spans the full life of a case. His first-chair trial experience informs his appellate practice, while his appellate experience shapes how he prepares and tries cases.

That perspective was shaped early in Ryan’s career through experience with numerous federal judges in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, including Judges Walter Smith, Orlando Garcia, and James R. Nowlin. Experience across the litigation spectrum—including administrative proceedings, trials, and appeals in state and federal courts—has equipped Ryan to address matters from every angle.

Before joining Husch Blackwell, Ryan practiced for 15 years at a Texas-based civil defense and commercial litigation firm, where he represented companies and individuals in matters involving product liability, personal injury, intellectual property, insurance coverage, complex business disputes, and employment disputes. He draws on that experience to represent clients in commercial litigation and personal injury matters, with a focus on defending companies and individuals, including in matters arising from trucking and other transportation-related accidents.

As a trial attorney, Ryan has served as lead trial counsel in multiple cases tried to verdict, including matters in which plaintiffs sought seven-figure damages from clients. He has also represented clients as part of larger litigation teams in high-stakes commercial disputes, including a case in which the plaintiff sought more than $1 billion in damages.

As an appellate attorney, Ryan has served as lead appellate counsel in numerous state and federal appeals. He has briefed and argued appeals involving complex litigation matters and provided appellate support in trial-court litigation, bringing an appellate perspective to case strategy trial preparation.

Ryan takes a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach to representing clients. He believes his role is not simply to identify problems, but to help clients navigate them with a clear plan forward. He keeps clients informed throughout the litigation process and works to give them confidence that their matters are being handled thoughtfully and thoroughly. Whether handling a discrete dispute or a complex, high-stakes case, Ryan is committed to seeing it through.
