Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that Lisa T. Thomas and Bryan Stewart have joined the firm’s Healthcare, Life Sciences & Education industry group as partners. Both attorneys will be members of Husch Blackwell’s Link virtual office and are located in the southeastern United States, a key target geography for the firm.
Thomas is a veteran regulatory and transactional attorney with deep ties to the healthcare industry. Her client roster spans a variety of providers, ranging from hospitals to physician practices, for whom she provides strategic counsel in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, fraud and abuse, physician self-referral laws, enrollment and certification, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, managed care contracting, hospital-physician alignment strategies, privacy, and corporate governance. For over three decades Thomas’s practice has been based in Charleston, South Carolina, and she has longstanding relationships with healthcare industry leaders throughout the region.
Based in Atlanta, Stewart is an accomplished intellectual property lawyer who advises clients on how to protect, preserve, and grow the corporate value of their intellectual property portfolios. Stewart regularly counsels clients in the healthcare industry, as well as companies in allied areas including medical devices, software development, and mobile and network technology. His client roster spans companies at all stages of growth, from start-ups to large multinational corporations, and his practice touches upon all aspects of IP, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
“Our healthcare industry group is poised to grow whenever and wherever we see opportunities to better serve existing clients and make new client relationships,” said Curt Chase, the head of Husch Blackwell’s Healthcare, Life Sciences & Education industry group. “The southeast is a target geography for us, and our Link virtual office provides us with the means to attract very talented attorneys, even in areas where we don’t currently have a physical office location."
“I have been in private practice in Charleston since 1988. For me, it was a nonstarter to contemplate uprooting myself, my family, or my practice,” said Thomas. “So the opportunity to join one of the top-five largest and most active healthcare law firms—and to do so from home—was a very exciting prospect. My clients are going to have access to incredible bench strength spanning virtually every facet their operations, and Husch Blackwell’s culture of collaboration and client service is very consistent with the way I approach my practice."
“Husch Blackwell has nationally recognized healthcare, life sciences, and intellectual property teams, and I reached a comfort level very quickly with the firm, its dedication to growth, and its collegial approach,” said Stewart. “The ability to join the firm while being based in Atlanta was a big plus for me, and I sensed right away that the firm is very intentional about integrating attorneys on a nationwide basis into strong, client-focused teams. I look forward to helping to firm grow in the southeast and nationally."
