Domestic and international manufacturing and research clients count on Mark to spearhead complex patent prosecutions, trademark issues and other intellectual property matters.

Diligent and responsive, Mark prides himself on crafting creative solutions that meet client needs while keeping within tight budgets. He partners with in-house counsel at large corporations, smaller companies and inventors across a spectrum of industries and products.

He has extensive experience handling matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), foreign patent offices and U.S. courts. His successful patent prosecution work has included semiconductor processing methods and devices, LCD and LED lighting devices, cancer treatment medicaments, medical devices and beverageware.

Besides patent prosecution, Mark’s practice includes intellectual property client counseling,  trademark prosecution and IP litigation.

Trained as a chemical engineer, Mark also has developed knowledge in a variety of scientific and technological fields, including electrical and pharmaceutical, which helps him to assimilate complex matters and present them in a clear manner.

Experience
  • Secured more than 1,500 U.S. patents.
  • Represented prevailing defendant in design patent infringement suit in U.S. District Court and won summary judgment of invalidity of two design patents (concerning sports-based jerseys for dogs) based on prior art. Federal Circuit affirmed grant of summary judgment of invalidity of patents in extensive precedential opinion.
  • Conducted patent prosecution work involving semiconductor processing methods, liquid crystal display (LCD), light-emitting diodes (LED), cancer treatment medicaments, magnetic recording mediums, medical devices and beverageware technologies.
  • Represented patentee in one of the first successful inter partes review before Board of Patent Appeals.
  • Prepared patent application involving 3D printing technology for multinational aerospace defense industry client.
Outside the Office

Mark spends most of his personal time with his family.

Mark and his wife have a large family with five kids, four of whom are currently in college. They enjoy visiting their kids at their various colleges. Two play college lacrosse, and they try to get to every game they can. 

When not visiting their kids, they enthusiastically cheer on Notre Dame, as well as play with their golden doodle.

Before they were in college, Mark coached his kids on 23 different sports teams. Mark also enjoys running, swimming and reading.
