Overview

A former engineer, Mary has the experience to guide renewable energy clients through complex corporate law matters.

Mary represents renewable energy clients with project financing and mergers and acquisitions at various stages of project development. Having worked in the renewable energy division of a global engineering firm, Mary understands the necessary steps for taking a project from early development through operations. Clients appreciate her well-rounded perspective on purchase-related and project-related agreements.

In addition, Mary handles corporate governance matters and restructurings for renewable energy companies. She also drafts and negotiates behind-the-meter power purchase agreements to help clients contract for the long-term sale or purchase of solar power.

In Mary’s prior engineering career, she specialized in solar photovoltaics. She drafted and negotiated construction contracts and performance guarantees, performed technical due diligence on solar projects for investors, and monitored onsite construction. She enjoys combining this knowledge with her legal skills to move clients forward and see projects to completion.

Represented solar developer in its sale of three solar photovoltaic behind-the-meter projects in California.
Represented Novelis Inc. in sale of 90% of its equity ownership in early-stage business related to the use of aluminum-integrated passive devices in semiconductor and electronic systems.

Mary enjoys traveling the globe.

Mary travels to destinations where she can connect with nature and enjoy good food. She visits friends across the U.S. and vacations at a new international location each year.

Community Leadership

Mary seeks out emotionally complex pro bono work.

Some clients are so emotionally tied to their legal conflicts that they cannot be objective about them. These are the people Mary seeks to help in pro bono cases. She strives to be the outside counsel who provides objectivity and clarity. Mary has worked on divorce cases, immigration matters, guardianship actions and estate planning.

Mediation

Mary mediates cases to help people feel heard.

A certified mediator, Mary handles small claims and small commercial cases to help parties resolve their disputes before going to court. She has mediated cases such as a patient suing a doctor’s office, a landlord suing a tenant and a driver in a traffic accident suing another driver. Mary believes that while most conflicts seem to be about money, they are actually about validating people’s feelings and helping them feel heard. She likes how mediation allows the parties to find their own creative solutions that work.
